Floyd William Land, 96, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Windsor Place in Columbus, MS. Visitation will be Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 12:00 - 1:00 PM at East End Baptist Church, Columbus, MS. A funeral service follow at 1:00 PM with Bro. Albert Wilkerson officiating. A graveside will be Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 3:30 PM at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Guntown, MS with Lowndes Funeral Home, Columbus, MS directing. Mr. Land was born in Fort Payne, Alabama on July 4th, 1922, to the late Stephen and Allie Myrtle (Evans) Land. He joined the Army on December 4, 1937 and spent eight years at Fort Benning with the 29th Infantry Company B. Mr. Land retired from the Air Force after twenty years of service. He loved his garden and looked forward to every spring planting. Mr. Land was a skilled mechanic and was generous with his time and talents when people needed help. He married the former Frances Ruth Cribbs on June 2, 1979 in Columbus, MS. They shared a life together for forty years and he was a blessed man to have had her in his life. Floyd and Ruth are members of East End Baptist Church in Columbus, MS. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, Kenneth Land and Cecil Land; and an infant sister. Mr. Land is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth (Cribbs) Land of Columbus, MS; children, Ann Ellis of New Orleans, LA and Robert William Land of Dothan, AL; grandchildren, Paul Michael Ellis and Leigh Anne Peters; three great-grandchildren, Beckman, Alice and Maxwell; brother, Raymond Land of Carlisle, PA; and sister, Faye Berry of Villages, FL. Pallbearers will be Keith Land, Tim Blair, Jerry Harris, Curtis Pritchard, Travis Berry and Paul Ellis. Memorials may be made to East End Baptist Church, P.O. Box 8480, Columbus, MS 39705. The Land family would like to extend their gratitude to the fine people at East End Baptist Church who have prayed, sent cards, visited and brought numerous meals. You are a blessing to the Land family. We love you Casey and Donna for always being present in time of need and celebration.
