Mr. L. E. Vernon

Mr. L. E. Vernon, 84, passed away on October 22, 2018, at his home in West Point. Funeral services will be Friday, October 26, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Sarah Windham officiating and assisted by Chaplain Betty Wyatt and the Reverend Jeff Shannon. Burial will follow in Memorial Garden Cemetery in West Point. Visitation will be Thursday, 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Mr. L. E. was born on January 31, 1934, in Winston County, the son of the late Lewis and Edna Lovorn Vernon. He was a Truck Driver for Miller Transport for over 25 years. Mr. L. E. was a Veteran of the Untied States Army. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in West Point. Mr. L. E. enjoyed traveling, sports, watching the Game Show Network and listening to county music. Mr. L. E. married Nora Ruth Buchanan in September of 1961 and she preceded him in death on January 26, 2016. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Ethel Lee, Earlene Weaver, Irene Griffin, Katherine Tackett, Lucy Warren and Lucille Swindol; and a brother, Lewis Vernon, Jr. Survivors include his two sons, Ronnie Vernon (Renee) of West Point and Brad Vernon (Kristin) of Melbourne, FL; four grandchildren, Kathryn Vernon of Caledonia, Ashley Vernon of Melbourne, FL, Tyler Vernon of Melbourne, FL and Jacob Vernon of Caledonia; one sister, Mary Francis Johnson of Columbus; one brother, James Vernon (Peggy) of Booneville; sister-in-law, Betty Jean Buchanan of Crawford; a number of nieces and nephews; and his caregivers, Beatrice Kelly, Bobbie Amos and Sheila Henley. Pallbearers will be Tyler Vernon, Jacob Vernon, David Russell, Scott Russell, Gary Russell, Richey Buchanan, Rodney Buchanan, Steven Buchanan, Colby Latham and Cameron Latham. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men’s Breakfast Club at Christ United Methodist Church, Former Co-Workers at Miller Transport, Special Friends at Ryan’s in Columbus and North Mississippi Medical Center Home Health.
