Hugh Edward Nance, age 50, of Guyton, Georgia, formally of Columbus, passed away October 12, 2018, in Savannah, Georgia. Services will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with Dr. Breck Ladd, Rev. Sammy Crawford and Dr. Robert Ball of Jacksonville, FL officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday one hour prior to service at the church. Memorial Gunter Peel Funeral Home & Crematory, 2nd Avenue North location is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Nance was born May 3, 1968, in Columbus, to Barbara Ford Nance and the late Paul Allen Nance. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the North Mississippi Emmaus Community. He attended and played football at East Mississippi Community College and received his Master’s Degree from Mississippi State University. He was employed at the Benjamin Moore Paint Company. Hugh was a former football referee and a member of the Hairston Bend Hunting Club. He enjoyed boating and spending time with his family. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Paul E. and Adeline H. Nance; and his maternal grandparents, Hugh and Lillian Ford. Survivors include his mother, Barbara Ford Nance of Columbus, MS; wife, Tara of Guyton, GA; children, Kyle of Jacksonville, FL, Kala, Hope and Emma, all of Guyton, GA; sister-in-law, Dee Poquette (Dan) of New Fairfield, CT; cousin, Adam Poquette of Falmouth, MA; and mother-in-law, Beth Cauthan of Spartanburg, SC. Serving as pallbearers will be Craig Bateman, Tony Gray, Aubrey Adair, Shay Eubanks and Kyle Nance. Serving as honorary pallbearers Larry Bennett, Clay Bateman, Mac Eubanks, Billy Crossley, Sammy Fletcher, Scott Murrah, Don Davis, Buddy Shelton, Sammy Townsend, Bob Herron and Bob Ferguson Memorials may be made to: Fairview Baptist Church, 127 Airline Road, Columbus, MS 39702 or to the charity of your choice.
