COLUMBUS ó Earnestine Jones Mitchell, 87, died June 11, 2018, at her residence. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Stephen Chapel M.B. Church with Rev. Joe L. Peoples officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. today at Carterís Funeral Services of Columbus. Carterís Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Mitchell was born Mar. 7, 1931, in Columbus, to the late George Jones and Sallie Perkins Jones. She was formerly employed as a LPN at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT. She was member of Stephen Chapel M.B. Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, William Jones, Sr.; and siblings, Eddie Perkins, Jr., Dorothy Perkins and Ricky Perkins. She is survived by her children, Jacqueline Smith of Columbus, Alfonza Mitchell of Decatur, Georgia, Naomi Mitchell of Richmond, California and Ellis Mitchell, Jr. of Bradenton, Florida; siblings, Louise Pryor of Brighton, Alabama, Betty Bailey and Bobby Perkins, both of Bessemer, Alabama, John Crosby of Muskegon, Michigan and Earnest Jones; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Earnestine J. Mitchell Nursing Scholarship, The MUW Foundation, 1100 College St., MUW-1618, Columbus, MS 39701.
