VERNON, Ala. — Betty Jean Barnes, 81, died Feb. 9, 2018, at Generations of Vernon in Vernon, Alabama. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Fellowship Baptist Church with Mike Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Chandler Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Barnes was born Jan. 10, 1937, in Lamar County, to the late John Thomas and Mary Amanda Greer Thornley. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four sisters, Nina Mae Monroe, Jimmie Nell Cribbs, Laura White and Joanne Yerby, and one brother, James Thornley. She is survived by her one son, Edward Barnes of Tuscaloosa; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Rogers of Madison; one brother, Guy Charles Thornley of Waco, Texas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
