Carolyn Walley Smith, age 69, of Columbus, MS, passed away April 14, 2017, at Windsor Place. Graveside services will be Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at 1:00 PM at Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Melvin Mordecai officiating. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Smith was born April 27, 1947, in Clayton, NM, to the late Mason and Sarah Sims Walley. She grew up in Columbus, MS, and attended MSCW where she was a member of the Rosets, Alpha Epsilon Delta, and Tri Beta. She received her Bachelors and Medical Technology Degrees from the University of Alabama Birmingham. After working in the laboratory, Carolyn started a new career in Diagnostics Sales and Product Management. She worked as a medical technologist at the UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL, and also worked for various medical companies including Calbiochem Behring Corp., California Immuno Diagnostics, Hyland Diagnostics, and Cooper Green Hospital. She was a member of the former Central United Methodist Church. Mrs. Smith is survived by her brother, George A. Walley of Lees Summit, MO.
