COLUMBUS — Martha Bagwell Whitmire, 85, died March 18, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph Windle officiating. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Bethlehem Cemetery in Ackerman with the Rev. Roy Hawkins officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Whitmire was born Oct. 27, 1931, to the late Frank H. and Grace Ledbetter Bagwell in Forth Worth, Texas. She was previously employed as a seamstress with Macon Garment Plant, at Blue Bell and Pryor’s. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church She is survived by her sons, Brady Lee Whitmire Jr. of Columbus and Robert Harvey Whitmire of Birmingham, Alabama; daughters, Sharon W. Spurgeon of Brooksville and Darla Griffin of Starkville; sister, Lanelle B. Hightower of West Point; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be Virgil Jones, Ron Moss, Steven Griffin, Ryan Henderson, Johnathan Hall and Greg Spurgeon. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 39213.
