A Forest man’s shooting death in Clay County has been ruled “consistent with a homicide” following provisional autopsy results. Clay County Coroner Alvin Carter declined further details about the Friday death of Danelle Young, 21, of 285 Hughes Road in Forest, citing an ongoing investigation by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office. The shooting was initially reported as accidental.

West Point names interim police chief, deputy clerk

WEST POINT — During a three-hour executive session, the West Point Board of Selectmen tapped West Point Police Department Officer Bobby Lane as interim police chief and Reba Mattix as named deputy clerk. The West Point board voted 4-1 in August to fire former Police Chief Steve Bingham.

Police Tuesday arrested a 29-year-old Columbus woman after they learned she may have tried to pass several bad checks at a local retailer. City school approve budget, more construction bonds

STARKVILLE — School board members approved the $57 million 2009-2010 budget for Starkville public schools in a meeting where they also voted to issue $8.575 million in bonds for continued construction. The budget contains $18.26 million in state funding and will tax Starkville residents at 62.31 mills. The millage rate is just slightly less than what was taxed last year.

EMCC reports summer enrollment boost
