The Monroe County SWAT team raided the home Friday of a 49-year-old man accused of selling moonshine whiskey and possessing marijuana.
After receiving a tip from a neighbor of Cox, Monroe County sheriff”s deputies and agents with the North Mississippi Narcotics Unit and Alcohol Beverage Control executed a search warrant against Albert Cox, of 10508 Old Magnolia Highway in Prairie.
Officers found Cox had “a felony amount of marijuana” and a “large quantity” of homemade corn whiskey. They also confiscated three guns, one of which was a handgun found on Cox at the time of his arrest, two vehicles and about $40,000 in cash.
Cox, whose bond was set at $75,000 by Justice Court Judge Robert Fowlkes, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a church, which was near his house.
Monroe County Sheriff Andy K. Hood urged the community to report suspected illegal activity to the property law enforcement agencies.
Also in Monroe County, 53-year-old William Henry Brandon, of 20379 Old Houston Road in Aberdeen, was charged Jan. 28 with stealing a car on New Year”s Day, Hood reported.
Brandon, whose bond was set at $5,000 by Fowlkes, was charged with felony taking of a motor vehicle from a neighbor. The car was found later wrecked in a creek on Egypt Road in the county.
