NORTHPORT, Ala. – A man suspected of attacking an employee at a Northport auto repair shop with a hammer called 911 and asked to be taken to a drug and mental health treatment facility just hours after the attack.
Northport police told The Tuscaloosa News they have charged 28-year-old Robert James Jacobs with attempted murder and first-degree robbery. He is accused of attacking the repair shop worker Friday night and stealing cash from him.
Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit commander Capt. Loyd Baker said Jacobs called 911 later Friday night from a hotel in Northport and asked to be taken to the treatment facility.
Jacobs was arrested at the hospital. The victim”s name has not been released. He sustained brain injuries and broken facial and jaw bones.
