The Starkville planning and zoning commission Tuesday approved the conditional use request of a developer who wants to build condominiums in a portion of the former Borden milk plant.
Starkville-based Tabor Construction will go before the Starkville Board of Aldermen Feb. 1 for final approval of its request to construct condominiums, a multi-family use, in the C-2 general business district at Montgomery and Lampkin streets.
Tabor wants to construct eight one- and two-bedroom units on the second floor of the former milk plant, now dubbed The Creamery at Central Station. Another option would include a mix of residential and commercial uses in the 12,100-square-foot space.
Tabor purchased the former Borden plant in 2009 and has since renovated it for Central Station Grill, Boardtown Bikes, Something Southern and Central Station Storage, all of which have since moved in to the building.
In August 2010, Tabor purchased a .37-acre strip of land from the southern adjacent property owner and had it rezoned to C-2, then incorporated it into his property with a “Phase 1″ condominium plat. Tabor hoped to accumulate enough property to accommodate minimum parking requirements without having to utilize off-site areas.
Tabor now has 122 parking spaces on site, well over the city”s parking code requirements.
The Feb. 1 Board of Aldermen meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall.
