Weather forecasts indicate the potential exists for a “significant weather event” that could enter the area late Sunday and early Monday.
Being prepared and planning ahead are critical components in weathering the storm, according to 4-County Manager of Operations Anthony Miller.
“Enact your own emergency response plan measures,” Miller stressed. “And if you don”t have an emergency response plan, making one in advance of an event is a good idea. Being prepared is a key component in a successful emergency response plan.”
The cooperative is prepared, too.
“Like everyone, we”re keeping a close eye on the weather reports. We”ll be ready in case something happens. And, if it does, we”re prepared to get assistance from fellow cooperatives through our emergency response agreement through the Electric Power Associations of Mississippi,” Miller explained.
Four-County offers the following tips:
· Stock up on non-perishable food, medicine, baby supplies and pet food.
· Purchase bottled water; one gallon of water per person per day.
· Gather emergency supplies, such as flashlights, battery-operated radios, extension cords and purchase extra batteries.
· Monitor official weather bulletins.
· Keep extra cash on hand.
· If a family member uses life-sustaining medical equipment, develop an emergency plan for generating power or make plans for relocation in the event that severe weather occurs.
· Do not connect a generator directly to your home”s electrical system. It is dangerous to you, your neighbors and line workers who may be attempting to restore your power.
· Stay away from downed power lines.
In the event of outages to the 4-County system, 4-County Consumer Service Manager Cliff Wall encourages members to report them by calling 1-800-431-1544. “Keep the outage reporting number where it is easily accessible. Our crews are always prepared to respond,” Wall stressed.
