A Columbus man faces felony charges of assaulting a police officer by smashing a window in his face.
Larzarius Dantez Fisher, 22, of 423 Airline Road, was detained by officers shortly after 11 p.m. at the Columbus Fairgrounds and placed in the back of a police cruiser after attempting to flee. Fisher began kicking the driver side rear window, which shattered as Officer Bo Pearson was looking in on him, causing minor lacerations to Pearson”s face.
Officers removed Fisher from the vehicle and attempted to shackle his legs but were twice forced to deploy a Taser when Fisher became violent. Tasers had minimal effects on Fisher and additional officers were called to control the crowd gathering around the scene.
Despite multiple officers attempting to control Fisher, he had to be doused with pepper spray before finally being shackled.
Fisher is charged with simple assault on a police officer and malicious mischief.
The man detained along with Fisher, Justin Sanders, 20, of 1909 14th Ave. N., was arrested for outstanding contempt of court warrants.
