A Shuqualak man was injured Friday afternoon when the lumber truck he was driving overturned on Highway 82.
Ronald Murray, 55, was traveling eastbound on Highway 82 near the Tenn-Tom bridge in Columbus just before 3:30 p.m. when a westbound tractor-trailer driven by Patrice Hines, of Alabama, lost a tire, Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Brian Mobley said. The tire from the westbound truck crossed the median and entered the path of Murray, who was hauling lumber. Murray tried to avoid the tire, but overturned in the median and his load scattered across the highway, Mobley said.
Murray suffered moderate injuries, including some broken bones, and was transported by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, Mobley said. Hines wasn”t injured.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 82 were closed for approximately 30 minutes after the wreck. The Highway Patrol eventually reopened lanes in both directions and was on the scene directing traffic until about 10 p.m., Mobley said.
