WEST POINT — A Clay County man faces aggravated assault charges for allegedly shooting a pregnant woman in the head.
Clay County Sheriff”s Office investigators say the baby Whitney Lenoir, 21, is carrying may be that of Rashawn Ivy, 22, of 13305 Moon Herd Road in Una, the man accused of beating her before shooting her once in the back of the head.
The shooting occurred early Saturday morning at an empty house on Moon Herd Road. Sheriff”s deputies were called to North Mississippi Medical Center-West Point shortly before 1 a.m., but Lenoir had already been airlifted to a hospital in Memphis.
Investigators hadn”t spoken to Lenoir as of press time and didn”t know the details of the attack, but they did report Lenoir drove herself to the hospital. She is believed to be seven months pregnant.
CCSO Chief Deputy Eddie Scott said investigators would speak with Lenoir today as well as hold follow-up interviews with Ivy, who is in custody at the Clay County Jail.
Scott says Ivy will likely appear in Clay County Justice Court Sept. 16 at 9 a.m.
