Starkville police have arrested one man and are looking for another in connection with an incident at Brookville Gardens last month, during which several shots were fired and an apartment door was kicked in illegally.
The Starkville Police Department Tuesday arrested Sam West Lee, 26, whose last known address was 511 Whitfield St., Apt. 4, Starkville, on a charge of burglary. Lee posted a $50,000 bond and was released.
Officers are searching for a second suspect in the case, Shawn Pittman, whose address is unknown, said SPD Sgt. Chadd Garnett. Pittman has a warrant out for his arrest on a charge of burglary.
The charges against Lee and Pittman stem from an incident on Aug. 15 when officers from the Starkville Police Department responded to a call of shots fired at Brookville Gardens Apartment 23B.
Police believe either Lee, Pittman or both, fired into Apartment 23B from outside, then kicked in the apartment door, Garnett said. Because the pair entered the apartment illegally, they were charged with burglary, but additional charges may be brought against them for the shooting after results come back from the crime lab, Garnett said.
Pittman is described as a black male in his 20s, though Garnett had no additional physical description.
“(Pittman) is known in the community,” Garnett said. “I”m not going to say he”s armed and dangerous, but I”d approach him with caution due to the fact that he was involved in an incident with a weapon.”
Anyone with information on Pittman”s whereabouts can call Garnett at 662-323-4131, ext. 136, or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
