Airbus, the Columbus plant which builds helicopters, is looking to hire 40 employees within the next few months.
On Tuesday, Airbus will host an on-site job fair from 3-6 p.m., at Cafeteria C at the Airbus facility, 1782 Airport Road.
Airbus is an international company with nearly 25,000 employees worldwide, including four locations in America. The Columbus location opened in 2006 and has nearly 200 employees who manufacture two to three Lakota Helicopters each month for the U.S. Army. About 1,100 pilots per year are trained to fly the Lakota UH-72A helicopter.
Other than the Lakota aircraft, the Columbus facility also manufactures H125 aircrafts and completes customizations for aircrafts. It produces up to 80 aircrafts a year.
Bob Cox, Airbus senior manager for communications, said the Columbus facility is largely looking for experienced candidates to fill those roles.
“We are trying to meet the demand for the product,” Cox said. “The Mississippi plant does a great job producing aircrafts on time. The people there are great and we are just looking to add to it.”
Cox said the event is “come and go” and allows applicants to apply on-site.
The company is looking for aircraft technicians with at least two years experience, inspectors with at least four years experience and engineers with six-to-nine years experience.
Cox said applicants need to bring an electronic resume for the hiring event.
Macaulay Whitaker, chief operating officer Golden Triangle Development LINK, said she is excited to see a growth in economic development in the area. “Anytime one of our preferred employers in the region is hiring at these numbers it’s something we like to see,” Whitaker said. “It provides great opportunities for residents of the Golden Triangle and sends a message of growth to those who might look to locate here.”
