Starkville Police have arrested a man for an attempt to shoot someone at the Westside Market on Sunday.
Jakevious Goss, 18, of Starkville, has been charged with aggravated assault and misdemeanor carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
Police responded to the shooting attempt at 7:24 p.m. Sunday after receiving a report that a person had been shot in the store. At the scene, police determined the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, Goss apparently having shot himself during the incident.
In Thursday’s update on the case, SPD reported that Goss was accused of shooting at another person.
While SPD Public Information Officer Brandon Lovelady said the department does not identify victims, he noted that the victim from Sunday’s shooting, like Goss, was an 18-year-old male.
Oktibbeha County Director of Emergency Medical Services Michael Hunt confirmed Goss was treated at OCH Regional Medical Center with a jaw wound and released.
SPD says the incident remains under investigation.
