During the Mississippi Farm Bureau Federation Annual Convention held Nov. 30-Dec. 2 in Jackson, Noxubee County’s Tyler and Sarah Huerkamp were recognized as the 2018 Ag Achievement Award winners through the organization’s Young Farmers and Ranchers (YF&R) program.
The award recognizes farmers between the ages of 18-35 who derive most of their income from farming. The Huerkamps run a cotton farm near Macon, Mississippi.
The Huerkamps started their farm just after college when Tyler purchased land once belonging to his grandfather. They make sure the importance of farming and agriculture in Mississippi and the country is not lost. They conduct school tours of their farm, serve on local boards, and volunteer in their church and community.
As the Ag Achievement Award winners, the Huerkamps win a Ford F-150 pick-up truck, the use of Kubota and John Deere tractors, nearly $2,000 in technological improvements to their farm and prize money. They will also represent Mississippi Farm Bureau at the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual conference in New Orleans in January.
