BELGRADE, Mont. -- President Donald Trump on Saturday told supporters in Montana that Tuesday's vote represents "one of the most important elections of our entire lives."
Addressing hundreds of supporters at a rally on a chilly airport tarmac, Trump said the choice on Election Day is between building on progress achieved under his administration or letting "radical" Democrats take a "giant wrecking ball" to the economy.
"America now has the best economy in the history of our country," Trump said, repeating an inaccuracy about U.S. economic performance since he took office. "I said it was going to happen. I just didn't know it was going to happen this fast."
Trump tries to strike fear in his campaign crowds by arguing that Democrats want to raise their taxes. No Democrats in Congress voted for massive tax cuts he signed into law last year.
Control of the House and Senate is at stake in Tuesday's balloting. Trump is in the midst of a feverish push to help his Republican Party expand its 51-49 edge in the Senate, but has seemed less involved in helping the party maintain control of the House.
Trump opened the rally by highlighting Friday's government report that employers added 250,000 jobs last month. Unemployment held steady at 3.7 percent, its lowest rate in nearly 50 years, and pay rose at a healthy pace.
Trump on Friday launched into an eight-state campaign blitz to Election Day, with events in West Virginia and Indianapolis. In addition to Montana, he has another rally later Saturday in Florida. He'll also campaign in Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio, Indiana and Missouri through Tuesday.
