Dr. Ellie H. Graham, executive director of Greater Columbus Learning Center, has announced her retirement, effective June 30. Graham has worked in the field of education for 32 years; teaching in the Lowndes County School System, and 22 years as director of the community-based literacy program.
Graham received her bachelor of science in education from Mississippi University for Women and her graduate degrees from Mississippi State University. After joining the newly established learning center in 1988, she became active in her professional organization, Mississippi Association of Adult and Community Education, where she served as secretary/treasurer for 10 years and president in 1995. She received the Adult Education Administrator of the Year Award in 1996. As executive director, Graham was instrumental in earning the first EvenStart grant in Mississippi, the Mississippi Literacy Award, Mississippi Model Project, The Governor”s Exemplary Program Award, Mississippi Innovative Technology Award and Advancing the Status of Women Award. She has been active in the Heritage Civitan Club, Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce and the Columbus Lowndes Development Link.
