After being down for some customers for weeks, Columbus-based WCBI-TV expects its signal to be fully restored this week.
A problem with the transmission line caused many customers to lose the channel. By mid-June, the station had restored service to nearly all of its satellite and cable customers the technical glitch, but service has not yet been restored to over-the-air customers.
Replacement parts have been received for a transmitter at its broadcasting tower, located in Montpelier in northwest Clay County. And engineers are working to correct the problem.
Some residents receiving the station over-the-air in Columbus reported Wednesday they were receiving WCBI”s signal as of Tuesday night.
“We are hopeful that the signal will be at full strength sometime this week,” the station announced on its website. “We appreciate your patience.”
Satellite customers make up more than half of WCBI”s market; 3-percent of the market is comprised of over-the-air customers.
The station reaches about 250,000 households.
