Starkville police are searching for another suspect believed to be connected to a Monday kidnapping incident at the Brooksville Garden apartments.
SPD Detective Jonathan Headley, during a hearing in Starkville Municipal Court, said the department is “actively” seeking another suspect in the case. So far, police have not released any details on the second suspect.
Police arrested 14-year-old Jaquiores Boyd on suspicion of two counts of kidnapping on Tuesday. He is being charged as an adult because kidnapping, which carries a penalty of up to life in prison, is a capital charge.
During an initial hearing in municipal court on Wednesday, Headley said Boyd forced his way into a woman’s home, with the intent to confine her and her five children against their will, while the woman’s daughter was attempting to close the door. He said Boyd placed a handgun to the daughter’s head after entering the apartment.
Headley said the woman identified Boyd and said she knew him because he knows her daughter.
No injuries have been reported in the incident.
Headley also did not indicate how a second suspect was involved in the incident.
Boyd is in custody at the Oktibbeha County Jail on $200,000 bond.
On Wednesday, Municipal Judge Rodney Faver appointed public defender Mark Williamson as Boyd’s attorney. Boyd is next scheduled to appear in municipal court at 6 p.m. on July 9.
