A Columbus man has been sentenced to 40 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections for murder in Macon.
Cedric Carter, 36, pleaded guilty to second degree murder in Noxubee County Circuit Court last week. Carter was charged with the Dec. 11, 2016, shooting death of Macon business owner 34-year-old Andrew Sherrod, District Attorney Scott Colom said.
Colom said Carter had been in a bar owned by Sherrod the night of the shooting when he got into an argument with his wife and Sherrod asked him to leave. Outside the bar, Carter shot Sherrod and one other person. According to previous reporting by The Dispatch, Sherrod was taken to Noxubee General Hospital where he died later that night.
Originally from Columbus, Carter had been living in Noxubee County at the time of the shooting.
