A variety of businesses will open in the downtown Starkville area in a few weeks — including a fitness studio, hair salon and Thai restaurant.
Hotworx, a virtually-instructed exercise program, is expected to open right next door to Libby Story boutique on University Drive this summer.
The studio offers classes that allow those exercising to experience the benefits of infrared heat technology in a 30-minute yoga class or 15-minute high intensity interval workout.
Hotworx claims many benefits, from hot yoga or heated workouts, including accelerated calorie burning and detoxification. And unless another 24-hour, infrared fitness studio opens this summer, Hotworx will be the city’s first and only fitness studio of its kind.
Hotworx has 21 locations across the southeast, including locations in Madison and Oxford.
Now, let’s move on to the College Park shopping center on Russell Street, because there are a few things to look forward to.
First, Andaman Thai Restaurant is opening two doors down from George Sherman’s.
Art Buawatana, the restaurant’s head chef, said he expects doors to open in a week. The restaurant will serve traditional Thai food, such as curries and pad Thai.
Currently, Starkville’s only other Thai Restaurant is Thai Siam on Highway 82, Buawatana said, so he hopes residents will be willing to step out of their comfort zone and try a different kind of cuisine at Andaman.
Buawatana said they have not set official business hours, but they do expect to open within the next week.
Also, Bulldog Cuts is moving to the Russell Street location.
The hair studio is expected to open on May 1, in the location that the Cake Box Eatery and Bakery was located– right next to Hallmark. Until then, they will be sharing a space with Hair Express, which is located at 706 Highway 12 W., Suite B.
The salon was planning on opening in the mixed-use development planned for Jackson Square, but the Russell Street shop will be the permanent location for Bulldog Cuts.
Bulldog Cuts is open Monday through Friday at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon in their temporary location.
Moving on, Your Extra Closet storage unit added a 10,000 square foot climate controlled building at their newest location on Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. This location is only one of four located in Starkville, and is now equipped with exterior and roll-up doors, LED lights and digital surveillance cameras. It is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
