A former baseball coach at Starkville Academy was arrested in Clay County for burglary and two counts of grand larceny.
Deputies with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Shane Bazzell, 38, Friday. Sheriff Eddie Scott said Bazzell stole two vehicles last week and several pieces of sporting equipment a few weeks ago.
Bazzell, a former Major League Baseball draftee and temporary interim baseball coach at Starkville Academy in the 2009-10 school year, has multiple arrests from agencies ranging from the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office to the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
MBN investigated Bazzell for acquiring controlled substances by fraud in 2009 and 2010. He was indicted on four counts of prescription fraud in Chickasaw County and pleaded guilty to two counts.
In January 2010, LCSO deputies arrested Bazzell for grand larceny after he stole a four-wheeler, for which he was sentenced to two years house arrest in 2011.
Bazzell is currently scheduled to go before Lowndes County Circuit Court on Nov. 30 for possession of methamphetamines, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
