Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies are seeking a suspect in a Friday morning shooting at a Highway 69 residence just south of the Columbus-Lowndes County Airport.
Meanwhile, the victim is still in Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle after he suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim told deputies he was standing in his yard on the 3000 block of Highway 69 South just after midnight when a vehicle pulled up. Then a man the victim claims he does not know exited and began shooting at him, a sheriff’s office press release said.
Chief Deputy Marc Miley said investigators have identified a person of interest in the shooting, but no one has been arrested.
Miley said investigators do not believe the shooting was random and suspect the victim and shooter do actually know each other.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 662-328-6788 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 800-530-7151.
