Beverly Broocks was struck by a car Thursday afternoon while she was walking at the corner of Second Avenue North and Fifth Street between the Lowndes County Courthouse and Zachary”s.
Broocks was taken by ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, where whe is being treated for injuries.
Columbus Police Department Public Information Officer Terrie Songer said the driver of a white 2009 Toyota Camry was traveling east on Second Avenue North, trying to make a turn to go north on Fifth Street at about 10-15 mph.
Broocks, of Columbus, was walking west at the intersection of Second Avenue and Fifty Street when she was struck in the legs by the right front bumper of the Camry. The driver of the vehicle, who was not identified, was not injured.
There was no property damage, and no citations were issued.
Broocks was the chair of the Columbus-Lowndes E-911 Commission until she resigned earlier this year.
