Less than a day into his trial, Columbus resident Kirby Erby pleaded guilty to aggravated assault.
Erby, 23, of 39 Christopher Drive, will spend up to 10 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with five years on probation following his release. He was initially charged with two counts but one was dismissed as part of the plea deal.
Erby was accused of being involved in a shooting at a house party on Highway 182 in August 2014. Both he and his brother, Joshua Erby, were present at the party and accused of opening fire and shooting two people.
Joshua Erby was also charged with two counts of aggravated assault. His case has not yet gone to trial.
Kirby Erby is also the suspect in the shooting death of Joshua Richardson in September 2014. He and another of his brothers, Quinton Erby, were both charged with murder and aggravated assault in that case, which has not yet gone to trial.
