Roughly two weeks remain to register to vote in approaching municipal primary elections.
Voter registration for the primaries will remain open until noon April 1, according to the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office. Municipal clerks’ offices will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on April 1 to accept in-person voter applications.
In order to vote in the municipal elections, a person must be at least 18 by the June 6 general election.
Voters who are already registered to vote in Mississippi but have moved or changed their name since the last election can update their information at the “Y’all Vote” page (www.yallvote.sos.ms.gov) on the Secretary of State’s website.
To update voter registration through the website, voters must provide county, name, date of birth and the last four Social Security number digits to locate previously-existing information in the Statewide Elections Management System.
Absentee ballots for the May 2 primary election are available at city registrar’s offices. In Columbus, that offices is located at 1621 Main Street. In Starkville, the office is at 108 W. Main St.
Any in-person absentee ballots must be cast at the registrar’s office by noon on April 29.
Mail ballots must be returned to the registrar’s office by 5 p.m. May 1.
