Police are searching for a person of interest for questioning in a Columbus shooting last month.
In a press release issued Thursday, officials at the Columbus Police Department asked the public for help locating 22-year-old Gevartise Taran Armstead. Authorities said Armstead may have been involved in a Jan. 28 shooting that sent one man to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
The shooting occurred at the intersection of 17th Street South and Bell Avenue after an argument among three men escalated. Authorities said they do not know whether the victim, who they have not identified, has been released from the hospital.
Last week, CPD officers arrested DeAngelo Fisher, 34, of 408 Eighth Ave. S., and charged him with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, for allegedly being at the scene with a weapon. However, Fisher has not been charged in the actual shooting.
Armstead is wanted for questioning, according to Assistant Police Chief Fred Shelton via City Public Information Officer Joe Dillon. Police have not identified a suspect in the case.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on Armstead’s location to contact the CPD at 244-3500 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
