The lockdown on Columbus High School has been lifted, and the Columbus Police Department has called off a search for a potentially armed suspect in the woods around the school.
The school went on lockdown after police responded to a call at about 11:30 a.m. Officers received reports about two men — one of them possibly armed with a gun — walking near the high school, said City Public Information Officer Joe Dillon.
Officers located two men in the area who tried to run from police. They took one into custody and later released him without charging him, CPD Chief Oscar Lewis said. That man was unarmed.
Police did not find the other suspect.
Columbus Municipal School District Superintendent Philip Hickman said the high school was locked down for precautionary reasons. It was lifted at about 1 p.m.
