One woman is dead following a shooting in West Point early Friday morning.
West Point Police Department officers received a call about shots fired during a concert inside Bryan Union Hall on Lewis O’Neal Road at about 1:30 a.m., according to a press release from the police department. There they Officers found a woman with gunshot wounds to her chest. An ambulance took her to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle where she died.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name because they haven’t notified her family. Her body will be taken to the State Coroner’s Office in Jackson for an autopsy.
Police are compiling a list of suspects but have not made any arrests, the press release said.
“We have recovered shell casings from at least two different weapons, but it’s not clear who started the shooting or why,” Chief Tim Brinkley said. “These incidents are particularly challenging for investigators because of the large number of people and the low lighting of the venue that tend to distort the perception of any witnesses.”
Authorities are asking concert goers with cell phone video footage or anyone else with information to contact the West Point Police Department at 662-494-1244 or the Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
