Two North Carolina men are in the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center on identity theft charges after authorities said they were using stolen credit cards to make purchases at local convenience stores.
Jarron Thomas, 33, of Raleigh, and Kurtis Williams, 27, of Louisburg, were both arrested by the Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies on Friday on Highway 82 near the ramp to Highway 50. The two suspects had been in State Line Fuel Center, which contacted the LCSO when the suspects entered.
Thomas’ and Williams’ pictures had been floating through stores in the area after American Express notified Bullets in Columbus that a stolen credit card had been used there, Capt. Ryan Rickert with the LCSO said. Rickert said the suspects were using different credit card numbers to buy items at stores all over Lowndes County.
So far, the sheriff’s office has confirmed at least one of the cards used was reported stolen by the card owner, but Rickert expects the other card numbers Williams and Thomas used were also stolen.
Rickert said the charges allegedly made with the stolen cards could total as much as $2,000.
Bond has not yet been set for either suspect.
