More than 50 people have been arrested over the past week in what Monroe County authorities are calling a drug roundup.
Starting Tuesday night, Monroe County sheriff’s deputies began a series of arrests of low-level street dealers in the county, according to Sheriff Cecil Cantrell. As of Friday, 52 suspects were in custody, and Cantrell said the department expects to arrest more in the coming days.
The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation spanning several months, Cantrell said. The dealers are not all necessarily connected to one drug organization, but almost all of them were busted for distribution or sale of methamphetamines.
The suspects are all being held in the Monroe County Jail, Cantrell said.
