Authorities now believe a man found dead Thursday in his Columbus home was murdered.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant told The Dispatch Friday afternoon the autopsy of 42-year-old Rodrick Davis indicated Davis died from gunshot wounds. He did not specify the number of wounds or where they were on Davis’ body, citing an ongoing investigation.
Columbus Police Chief Oscar Lewis told The Dispatch on Thursday that police went to the home, at 475 Burgundy Drive, at about 2 p.m. in response to a missing person report.
Davis’s body was found inside his home. Merchant said he had been dead for a few days when officials found him.
Officials initially believed no foul play was involved in Davis’ death. Merchant told The Dispatch that he ordered an autopsy.
Lewis said Saturday there were still no identified suspects.
Police are asking anyone with information on the incident to call Columbus Police Department at (662) 244-3500 or Golden Triangle Crimestoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
