A fire consumed a house in the Sunset Subdivision near Starkville early Monday morning, according to Oktibbeha County Fire Services Coordinator Kirk Rosenhan.
Flames had engulfed the home at 279 Chisholm Drive by 2:05 a.m. when Rosenhan said the Central Oktibbeha Fire Department responded to the scene.
Rosenhan said no one was home at the time of the fire, and emergency responders contained the blaze in about two hours.
“It was a total loss,” Rosenhan said.
He said officials are uncertain if anyone was currently residing at the house.
“We believe that it was inhabited, but there wasn’t anybody home,” Rosenhan said. “The sheriff’s office noted that they’d seen people there, but they didn’t know much else.”
The fire’s cause is being investigated.
