A Clay County man died Thursday after his vehicle crashed as a sheriff’s deputy pursued him.
Jesse Randall, 46, died on impact after his vehicle ran off the Chickasaw-Clay County Line Road and hit a tree shortly after 9:30 p.m., Clay County Sheriff Eddie Scott said.
He was driving east when a westbound sheriff’s deputy observed Randall committing a traffic violation and tried to initiate a stop.
“By the time the deputy turned around and got after him and called it in, he drove up on the wreck,” Scott said.
Scott would not specify the traffic violation.
Randall crashed on the Chickasaw County side of the line, Scott added. The Dispatch could not reach the Chickasaw County coroner by press time.
