Mississippi Highway Patrol and emergency responders from Lowndes and Oktibbeha Counties responded to a traffic accident that seriously injured four people on Highway 82 East Saturday evening.
The accident occurred at about 5:15 p.m. when a silver vehicle ran off the road and overturned in a ditch just past the exit to Highway 45 South Alternate. When responders arrived, all four passengers had been ejected from the vehicle. All four were taken to area hospitals, including Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle and OCH Regional Medical Center. Two of the victims were taken by helicopter.
First responders at the scene did not specify how serious the victims’ injuries were but said none of them were able to tell responders what caused the accident. MHP officers at the scene said it appeared the driver had lost control of the vehicle.
