Rapper Flo Rida, best known for his 2008 hit “Low,” will headline Oct. 7’s Bulldog Bash, the Mississippi State University Student Association announced Friday.
Flo Rida, born Tramar Dillard, was nominated for numerous awards for the song, which featured rapper T-Pain. His album “R.O.O.T.S” was nominated for a Grammy, and Flo Rida himself earned top rap artist and two top rap song nominations at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards.
MSUSA President Roxanne Raven said her organization is excited to bring Flo Rida to Starkville.
“We aim to appeal to as many students as possible and expose them to the best artists available, and we have definitely achieved that with Flo Rida,” she said. “We hope everyone comes out to the Cotton District for this amazing event.”
Sharing the stage with Flo Rida will be Jackson-native Clayton Waller and his band, Rock Eupora, and New Orleans-based hip-hop artist Pell.
Rock Eupora, a self-described fuzz pop band, has released two albums: 2014’s “Blanks” and 2016’s “Soon the Sun Will Come.”
New Orleans-raised Pell, born Jared Pellerin, relocated to Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina and briefly attended MSU. He released albums “Floating While Dreaming” and “Limbo” in 2014 and 2016, respectively, and has more than 456,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
The main stage of this year’s Bulldog Bash will be erected near the intersection of University Drive and Nash Street. The MSUSA previously announced it would move the event to the university’s amphitheater but recommitted to hosting the festival in its traditional Cotton District home.
The Maroon Market, featuring local vendors and wares, will begin the day-long event at 2 p.m., followed by the Dawg Rally at 6. Rock Eupora will take the stage at 7.
This year’s Bulldog Bash will benefit the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine’s Vets for Vets program, which provides physical therapy to retired military service dogs. Past philanthropies include the Oktibbeha County Humane Society and the Palmer Home for Children.
