JACKSON — The Mississippi Highway Patrol is gearing up for extra patrols to make highways and roadways safe over the Labor Day weekend.
The patrol’s traffic safety campaign starts at 6 p.m. Friday and runs through midnight Monday.
MHP Capt. Johnny Poulos said in a news release state troopers and police also are part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over safety campaign that ends Labor Day night.
Poulos says troopers will have a large number of officers in concentrated areas to look for reckless and distracted drivers.
He says troopers also will hold safety checkpoints, stopping cars to check for seat belts and impaired drivers.
Poulos says four people died in crashes investigated by the highway patrol last Labor Day weekend.
