Lowndes County sheriff’s deputies arrested a local man Friday and charged him with domestic aggravated assault.
James Ashley, 52, of 368 Deer Trail, was arrested after he allegedly attacking a former romantic partner at his home, according to LCSO Capt. Ryan Rickert. The victim did not sustain serious injuries, Rickert said.
He added the charge does not mean Ashley attacked the victim with a weapon but that he showed “extreme indifference to life.” The charge generally implies choking or strangulation, Rickert said, but he would not confirm either took place in this incident.
Ashley’s bond was set at $7500.
In a separate incident, LCSO officers arrested Joshua Pumphrey, 19, of 284 Bryant Rd, on Saturday, on suspicion of auto theft.
Pumphrey allegedly stole an unlocked vehicle from the residence of someone he didn’t know, Rickert said. The vehicle’s owners reported it missing. Deputies found Pumphrey in the vehicle and arrested him at 4:15 a.m. Saturday on Blalock Road in Columbus Saturday.
Pumphrey’s bond was set at $5000.
Both Ashley and Pumphrey have been released after posting bond.
