One horse was killed and another injured Sunday night when a truck pulling a horse-trailer was struck from behind by another vehicle.
Sgt. Criss Turnipseed of Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop G said the accident happened at 9:20 on the east-bound lane of Highway 82 near the Paccar plant in Lowndes County. Turnipseed said a Ford F-350 pickup pulling a horse trailer, driven by Charles Davis, 63, was struck from behind by a Dodge pickup driven by John Shackleford, 21. Both drivers reside in Columbus, Turnipseed said.
The trailer was destroyed, Turnipseed said, and one of the two horses in the trailer died at the scene while the other was taken to Mississippi State University’s veterinary clinic in Starkville for treatment.
None of the four occupants of the two vehicles were injured, Turnipseed said.
