The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department is treating the death of a Walter Bell Road man Monday as a homicide as investigators piece together what happened.
Coroner Michael Hunt confirmed Will Allen Turner, no age provided, of 603 Walter Bell Road was found deceased in his driveway about 9 a.m.
His body was sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
OCSD Lt. Brett Watson said investigators are trying to establish a timeline of events leading up to Turner’s death by talking to witnesses and family members, but many details of the incident are still unknown.
“We don’t know exactly what happened. There are people talking about how there was a shooting, but we don’t have any substantive evidence to suggest that just yet,” Watson said. “There are no wounds that would make it obvious one way or another, but we’re treating it as a homicide out of an abundance of caution. We’re not ready just yet to rule out foul play.”
Hunt said an emergency call was placed to authorities about 9:15 a.m. Monday, and he arrived at the scene about 30 minutes later.
