A Clay County couple has been arrested on charges related to the sexual abuse of children.
On June 24, Clay County sheriff’s deputies arrested Wilber Shepard, 42, of 7371 Palestine Road in Pheba, and charged him with 10 counts of sexual battery of a child and two counts of rape of a child. On Wednesday, the department arrested Shepard’s wife, 35-year-old Tammy Shepard of the same address, and charged her with rape and accessory after the fact.
Three children are in protective custody in relation to these arrests, said Sheriff Eddie Scott. They will be questioned by experts in child psychology who will present a report with more details of the alleged crimes to the CCSD, he added.
Wilber Shepard was arraigned in court Tuesday and his bond set at $1.2 million. Both Shepards are being held in the Clay County Detention Center.
Investigators ask anyone with information about the case to contact CCSD at 662-494-2896 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
