The Columbus Police Department is investigating a break-in to a local Dollar General that occurred over the weekend.
Employees arrived at the Dollar General on Highway 50 Sunday morning to find the store had been broken into sometime between when employees locked up Saturday night and arrived back at work Sunday, according to the city’s Public Information Officer Joe Dillon.
Dollar General employees did not comment on the break in, but a press release from Dollar General Corporate Communications said that because customer and employee safety is the company’s top priority, they do not comment on security measures in place at the store.
In March, the Dollar General on Alabama Street was robbed at gunpoint. The robbery occurred at about 9 p.m. when customers were still shopping. The suspects in that case took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled in an unknown direction. There were no injuries.
The March robbery and this weekend’s burglary are not known to be connected, said Captain Brent Swan with the CPD.
Dillon said the police are still investigating the incident. If anyone knows anything about the break-in, call the CPD or Columbus Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
