Starkville Utilities officials are asking residents to be vigilant of an ongoing phone scam and to not disclose any personal information over the phone to con artists.
Recently, customers – small businesses, primarily – have reported receiving phone calls from someone stating they represent Starkville Utilities and push for a bill payment within a short timeframe. The scammer typically threatens to disconnect service if the customer does not go through with an over-the-phone payment.
Starkville Utilities does not call customers to request payments.
If you are targeted by scammers, report the attempt to Starkville Utilities at 662-323-3133.
