Columbus officials say the Mississippi Department of Transportation will pave the intersection at Highway 12 and Highway 50 this week.
MDOT will fund the project at no cost to the city, according to media release issued Saturday by the city of Columbus.
The paving is part of work being done on that area, including to the bridge over Magby Creek on North Lehmberg Road. The bridge was closed Feb. 1 so the city could have repairs done on the bridge’s steel pilings.
City officials say Weathers Construction crews completed the bridge repairs Thursday. Once MDOT completes the paving, the bridge will reopen, according to city officials.
Traffic on North Lehmberg Road has been detoured through several other east Columbus routes since Feb. 1.
“We are just as anxious as anyone to get the bridge open,” Columbus Public Works director Casey Bush said. “We know a lot of people need the route reopened and all of us are working to complete the project.”
