JACKSON — The number of people who have enrolled for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act stands at 97,909 with less than 11 days before the final deadline to get 2016 coverage.
Jan. 31 is the deadline for people to sign up at HealthCare.gov for coverage.
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell, in a news release Wednesday, said in the first month of open enrollment, which began Nov. 1, 88 percent of Mississippi consumers who selected a plan were determined eligible for help to lower their monthly premiums. For 2016, Mississippi consumers can choose from three issuers and an average of 23 plans.
If someone chooses not to buy insurance and could afford to do so, they’re at risk of paying a fee of $695 or more.
