NATCHEZ — Natchez Police Chief Daniel White says an officer has been shot and the officer’s wife is accused.
He told The Natchez Democrat that Elvis Prater was shot at his home Saturday and 42-year-old Violette Prater was arrested Saturday night on an attempted murder charge.
White said in an email Sunday to The Associated Press that Elvis Prater was doing fine and was back home after treatment at Rapides Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana.
He did not immediately respond to questions about whether Violette Prater has an attorney, whether her bond has been set, and what is believed to have touched off the shooting.
White told the newspaper that the incident remains under investigation.
Prater was an independent candidate for the Adams County Sheriff’s race, but dropped out just before the election.
